Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plain (3) rolling to flat Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary strata, gently dipping toward coast
APPALACHIAN HIGHLANDS    
Piedmont province (4) mountainous to rolling Paleozoic metamorphic to west; Mesozoic coastal plain to east
